Youth Opportunities

Youth Opportunities

4th Second provides several sub-related programs under the umbrella of the Youth Empowerment Program (YEP). The goal is to provide youth with skills that they can implement in the community and support them with economic stability, advocacy, and resources. In this program we seek to empower the youth in creative ways through hands-on gardening and mental well being education. These sessions we aspire to improve social skills, increase self-efficacy and self-esteem, and increase economic stability.

Growing Futures

Growing Futures Program addresses economic and food security, supports youth advocacy, and strengthen factors of resilience. This program offers hands-on gardening, health and mental well-being education, civic engagement, peer mentorship, and family support.

Meet the Youth Team!

Hey everyone! My name Is Alejandro Pulido. As the Growing Futures Program Manager, I am looking forward to sharing the positive impact (and fun!) that gardening can have on your life during our urban agriculture efforts. Also, enjoying moments of peace while exploring nature, reflecting on our personal paths of transformation and where we want to be moving forward. So get your gardening gloves and hiking boots ready! When I am not at work, you can still find me at a community garden volunteering, enjoying live music, traveling, and playing handball.

My name is Kayla Parker and I am the Youth Program Manager for 4th Second! I have many passions but of those passions, one of them is working with youth and making a difference in my community. I enjoy the work that goes into building our future — which are the kids! I want to inspire, protect, and mentor the kids I work with and how that progresses in the future. It warms my heart to see the development that occurs when youth are supported. It is a pleasure to be back in the community that I was born in. I am hoping to have a positive impact on not only the youth but the community overall. I am an old soul, as I say, I love to listen to not only the 90s R&B, but take me back to the 70s and 80s as well! You can hear me blasting and singing along to the songs in my car!

My name is Lily Aldaz pronouns (she/her/hers) and I am the Outreach and Education Manager for 4th Second youth program. I grew up in Long Beach, Ca in a lower class family with many generational cycles. My passion to work with youth stems from my own personal trauma and experiences. I understood as an adolescent that having a positive role model during these crucial years is so important. My purpose is to guiding youth through difficult times and share my healing journey in order for youth to have an adult that has healed through many pains. In partnership with the youth team I will be educating and mentoring all of our youth to become the best version of themselves. ❤️ Something I enjoy doing is driving to different coffee shops to try their specialty latte’s. Even if I have to drive 3 hours from Vallejo, I am there! ☕❤️
